Decorating "formal" living room...?
My husband and I bought a new house!! We have 2 areas that could be the living room so we are making the other one with the tv. we've decided to make this a comforable relaxing space.
I've chosen the paint color http://www.buyaurapaint.com/ac-20-2oz.html
It's a great color, i think. It's greenish/gray..maybe?
Anyways this room has a bay window. I plan on putting a rocking chair in it, an antique lawyers bookcase and a green sofa in it. I have lamps and some antique tables that will be used as end tables. Other then that: i have no idea as far as other things to put in the room, including wall art. What are some suggestions?

Usually a formal living room has elegant elements of interior design. This includes fabrics that are luxurious which can be used for draperies and pillows and in upholstered items. Along with other textiles such as area rugs and a plush throw blanket.
Formal living rooms may have architectural features such as a chair rail, crown moldings and/or picture frame moldings.
For a masculine look, often photos of hunting scenes with men on horses followed by their hunting dogs are seen in a formal living room. Or multiple framed art work of botanical images. Art work flanked by electrical or candle lit wall sconces are popular in formal living rooms. Also, a tapestry or a small antique rug hanging on a wall can be used.
You may want to sent up a credenza, a dry sink or some other table with a collection of alcohol filled decanters and crystal glasses on a tray for display and bar usage.
It sounds like you like antiques. Go to flea markets and consignment stores to find some great objects that you love.
Look in magazines and see what appeals to your eye. Go for that look.
Decorating is not complicated when you build upon it slowly and only buy things you absolutely love. Deciding on a purchase because it is on sale is a mistake because you will sooner or later become bored of it long after the sale price is forgotten. Buy only things you love and if it happens to be on sale, then that is a bonus. Otherwise you will end up with a bunch of stuff that cost little and will not make you happy in the end.
